Scientific Officer/Research Officer in the Division of Neurology of the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 532136).

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Apply image analysis skills on clinical and research MRI techniques and sequences to study patients with stroke and dementia, or at risk of these conditions, in large cohort studies as well as randomized controlled trials.
  2. Collaborate with the Stroke Research and Prevention Group of HKU (stroke.hku.hk) to manage other research-related projects.
  3. Assist in neuroimaging data acquisition and analysis, write-up of the results, prepare scientific publications, draft research grants, and provide strategic guidance to ensure successful project outcomes.
  4. Provide technical training, coaching, and supervision of research team members and students.
  5. Perform any ad hoc or administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements

  1. A Ph.D. degree in Neuroimaging, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
  2. Extensive experience in processing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), such as arterial spin labeling and diffusion tractography, using programming scripts like Python and C++.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in analyzing large and complex datasets.
  4. Strong leadership experience with a track record of managing research teams and supervising students.
  5. Self-driven, motivated, and creative in designing image analysis pipelines according to project requirements.
  6. Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  7. Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese.
  8. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  9. Experience with image analysis packages such as Freesurfer, FSL, SPM, or 3DSlicer, or using machine learning or AI models would be advantageous.
  10. Candidates with less experience may be considered for the Research Officer position.
